RRB NTPC Undergraduate 2025 Selection Process
The selection has five important stages. All stages are mandatory. You must qualify in each stage to move forward. The process is transparent and merit-based. RRB follows strict guidelines for selection.
Stage 1: Computer Based Test 1 (CBT 1)
This is the first screening test. It has 100 multiple choice questions. The duration is 90 minutes. Questions cover General Awareness, Mathematics, and General Intelligence & Reasoning. Each correct answer gives 1 mark. Wrong answers have negative marking of 1/3 mark.
CBT 1 is qualifying in nature. It is used to shortlist candidates for CBT 2. The number of candidates shortlisted is based on vacancies. Usually 15 to 20 times candidates are called for next stage. The exam is held at various centers across India.
Stage 2: Computer Based Test 2 (CBT 2)
This is the main examination. It has 120 questions for 120 marks. The exam duration is 120 minutes. Subjects are same as CBT 1 but difficulty is higher. Questions are more analytical and calculation based.
Scores in CBT 2 are normalized. Normalization is done because exam is held in multiple shifts. The final merit list is based on CBT 2 marks. Candidates who score high marks move to next stage. Category-wise cutoff marks are applied.
Stage 3: Typing Skill Test / CBAT
This stage depends on your post. Junior Clerk cum Typist and Accounts Clerk cum Typist must appear for Typing Skill Test. The typing speed should be 30 words per minute in English. In Hindi, it should be 25 words per minute.
The typing test is qualifying in nature. Marks scored here do not count in final merit. You just need to pass this test. The test is conducted on computer only. Candidates must practice typing before the test.
Stage 4: Document Verification
Candidates who clear all tests are called for document verification. This happens at RRB offices. You must bring all original certificates. Educational certificates, age proof, and category certificates are checked. Any mismatch leads to rejection.
Stage 5: Medical Examination
The final stage is medical fitness test. Railway doctors conduct this exam. Vision, hearing, and general health are checked. Candidates must meet railway medical standards. Medical fitness certificate is issued after the exam. Selected candidates receive appointment letters after medical clearance.
